Hi everyone, today I will be sharing about the topic on anxiety.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety by the definition from a dictionary meant "a feeling of worry, nervousness or unease about something with uncertain outcome"
Based on some research, anxiety is an emotion influenced by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and bodily changes such as increased heart rate and sudden surge in blood pressure.
What are the causes of anxiety?
Generally, anxiety can be triggered due to uncertainty, stress or an unexpected change in lifestyle. Most people would probably think that anxiety is a psychological disorder and you are right; it is a psychological disorder to a certain extent. In fact, a lot of us experience anxiety on a day to day basis.
As long as the anxiety level does not pass a certain threshold, it is natural to feel that way under circumstances. However, if anxiety were to exceed that threshold, gets out of hand and starts to interfere with your life, it would then be categorised as anxiety disorder where it is best to reach out for psychological help.
Symptoms of anxiety disorder
Some physical symptoms that I have gathered from research are inclusive of but not exhaustive:
Sweating
Trembling or shaking
Rapid heart rate - This is an effect on your body as your brain senses danger - The brain sends message to your body to prepares it to react to a threat - Lots of blood is then being pumped into your muscles to get you ready to run or do anything vigorous
Shortness of breath - One starts to take in more oxygen as the oxygen is catered to the blood that are pumped more rapidly into our muscles to prepare us against a threat.
Dizziness/ Headache - The Vestibular system would be held responsible for this symptom where dizziness is felt when our body position and surrounding movements are sensed as abnormal - The Vestibular system is made of our inner ear of each side and nerves that connect certain parts of our brain together with the inner ear.
Stomach upset/cramps
Nausea
Muscle tension
Insomnia
Fatigue
Overcoming anxiety
Okay, I got to say that I am still looking for an efficient way to overcome anxiety completely but here are some temporary solutions to help you soothe your panic attacks.
Watch Food King! - This is my favorite Youtube channel and it has never failed to make me smile - It keeps me happy so why not just give it a go?
Workout or stretch - Exercise help to release endorphins which are known as happy hormones
Take deep breaths - Take a deep breath in and hold for 3 seconds - Then let it out and repeat the cycle until you feel better:)
To end this blog post off, I found an interesting poem that presents anxiety in the form of words to share with all of you. The poem is named "Explaining my depression to my mother" by Sabrina Benaim.
It goes like this, "Anxiety is the cousin visiting from out of town, depression felt obligated to bring to the party. Mom, I am the party"
I hoped you guys took something away from my blog post today!
Hope to see you guys on my next blog post!
